Work Halted at Nyhamna After Aircraft Accident

Hydro has decided to halt construction work at Nyhamna today after four people were killed in an aircraft accident at Stord this morning.

The plane was carrying project workers from Stavanger via Stord to Molde. The project workers were on their way to work in Nyhamna, where Hydro is developing Ormen Lange.

The aircraft, an Atlantic Airways BAE-146/200, overran the end of the runway when landing at Stord, according to police. There were 12 passengers on board, in addition to a crew of four. No Hydro employees were on board the plane.

"This is a sad day for the Ormen Lange project, and our thoughts go first and foremost to those who have been directly affected by this tragic accident at Stord," said Hydro's Project Director Tom Rotjer.

"Out of respect for what has happened and to be able to provide sufficient information, all work at Nyhamna has been stopped today," said Rotjer.

The facility's own health team and Aukra municipality's emergency services are mobilized and will assist at the scene.
