The acquisition adds several important components to Weatherford's multi-disciplined geoscience and engineering capability, including one of the industry's most experienced team of geologists, engineers and technicians.
Additionally, OMNI is known for pioneering wellsite stabilization procedures for unconsolidated cores, and continues to set the standard for analysis and evaluation of unconsolidated reservoirs. OMNI also was the leader in developing secured client web access to core data for faster delivery of analysis results, intermediate and final reports.
Other areas of expertise include sophisticated offshore/deepwater core handling techniques that are redefining the industry norm, unrivalled core handling and storage experience, one of the industry's largest and most comprehensive petrographic services groups, and a rock mechanics laboratory based in Houston – a key part of the company's comprehensive core testing program.
Detailed core and petrographic analysis are the foundation for understanding unconventional reservoirs, a continually growing segment of global production. Coupled with OMNI's Rock Mechanics Laboratory, OMNI is poised to re-define the benchmark for unconventional reservoir analysis. Adding Weatherford's engineering and geoscience skill completes the picture by providing the building blocks to efficiently design, drill and complete unconventional reservoirs.
"We're all very excited about joining the Weatherford team. Our wellsite and laboratory expertise fits perfectly into Weatherford's current suite of services, and these synergies will yield better service and data to our mutual clients," says Chris Bechtel, President of OMNI Laboratories.
"Additionally, Weatherford's worldwide network will expand OMNI's global reach, benefiting both in terms of adding locations around the globe, and in growing OMNI's Houston Technology Center. Needless to say, we're excited about the future."
"Our engineering and geoscience group is committed to continually finding ways we can deliver the most precise data possible -- in the most time-efficient way possible -- to help our clients make the most informed decisions that they can," said Robert Gales, Weatherford's vice president of engineering and geoscience. "The addition of OMNI to our existing Weatherford resources of Hycal Energy Research Labs and the intellectual capital of our geologists, geophysicists and drilling, completion, and reservoir engineers will help us deliver another valuable resource for managing risk and optimizing our client's production."
Houston-based OMNI generates data and provides recommendations for its clients to help them maximize production from oil and gas reservoirs. OMNI currently employs about 165 people, 100 of which are in their Houston Technology Center. OMNI also has fourteen locations worldwide, including Brazil, Trinidad, Venezuela, and the newest lab in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
