Duffy & McGovern to Add 20 Cabins to Rental Fleet
The project to construct 20 modules, which exceed the toughest offshore regulations, represents the Aberdeen and New Orleans-based firm's second multi-million dollar investment in the U.S. in just two years. The company constructed a similar fleet in 2005.
Due for completion in Autumn 2006, the A-60 rated units comply with the latest ABS and U.S. Coast Guard regulations and are SOLAS- and IMO-compliant, ensuring they are suitable for the harsh conditions workers face in offshore operations.
The eight and 12-man cabins are being fitted-out in Alabama by Jamestown Metal before arriving as part of the DMAS rental fleet at its base at Belle Chasse, La.
New Orleans is a key location for the firm, enabling distribution to its locations in the Americas including Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Brazil, and offshore Canada.
Duffy & McGovern's 12-man module comprises three four-man cabins, laid-out to take up less deck space than other available solutions, providing access at both ends of the unit. With luxury outfitting, they include full ventilation, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, and come with external linking stairs and walkways.
Thanks to increased production in New Orleans, DMAS has also appointed new staff in its administration and architectural outfitting teams.
Craig McLeish, Duffy and McGovern managing director, said: "We have seen a constant rise in business and that is exactly why we are continuing to expand our fleet in New Orleans, to ensure we can meet industry demand.
"In 2005 we created the 12-man cabin complex for the U.S. market, to provide an accommodation solution for operators and other firms looking to increase manning levels on their platforms, but with limited space to do so.
"Demand for those modules has continued to rise and this latest investment reinforces our ongoing commitment to servicing the needs of the industry in the Gulf of Mexico, where oil and gas exploration is as strong today as ever."
DMAS' expansion in the U.S. is part of its ambitious globalization program, which is backed by $28 million in development capital secured earlier this year. Barclays, one of the U.K.'s biggest banks, took on Duffy & McGovern's existing fleet finance and provided new money to fund construction of 100 new modules.
The company operates more than 250 accommodation modules across the globe from three main hubs in Aberdeen, New Orleans, and Singapore and is the only firm able to offer fully compliant SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and IMO (International Maritime Organization) living quarters in the Gulf of Mexico region.
Duffy and McGovern is the world's leading supplier of temporary offshore accommodation cabins for the oil and gas exploration and production industry with over 30 years' experience. The company has operations in 16 cities and 13 countries worldwide with regional hubs in New Orleans, Aberdeen, and Singapore.
