Brazil Authorizes ANP to Offer 284 Exploration Blocks in Round 8

Brazil's energy policy council CNPE has authorized national hydrocarbons regulator ANP to offer 284 blocks in seven sedimentary basins at the 8th hydrocarbons exploration licensing round scheduled for November 28, the mines and energy ministry said in a statement.

ANP itself had announced plans to offer 1,153 blocks in 18 basins, BNamericas reported in May.

The government has included areas with very high potential for oil, new frontier basins and blocks in mature areas, the former aimed at attracting SMEs. CNPE did not give more details about the areas to be offered.

ANP's director Newton Moenteiro had told BNamericas the number of blocks offered would be reduced from the initial announcement but said ANP had suggested a total area of 400,000 square kilometers.
