DONG Hires Maersk Newbuild for North Sea Work

Maersk Contractors and DONG have agreed on a contract for lease of a highly advanced jackup drilling rig to operate in the Danish part of the North Sea.

The contract will commence in 2008 and has a duration of 2 year plus a 1 year option.

The rig is the second in a series of four high efficiency jackup rigs which are presently under construction in Singapore. Safety has played a major role in the arrangement of the new rigs, which are mechanized to a degree not previously seen within 350 ft jackup rigs. Not least the area around the drill floor is mechanized and will with its highly advanced equipment contribute to an improvement in efficiency of up to 20% compared to conventional jackup rigs.

Mobilization from Singapore to the North Sea is estimated to 60 days and will take place in the summer of 2008.

"We have previously had a good cooperation with DONG and we are very pleased with this contract which gives us the opportunity to operate this very modern drilling rig in Denmark," said Paul Carsten Pedersen, CCO of Maersk Contractors.
