Large Gas Discovery Made In Northern China

A large natural gas field with "massive proven reserves" in the Ordos Basin, located in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been discovered by Changqing Oil and Gasfield Company, state media reported Thursday. The gas field, called Sulige, has about 602.5 billion cubic meters of probable natural gas reserves, reported China Daily, citing the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The field is expected to produce an average 6.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year in the next five years, it said, without providing details on whether production has started. It will provide gas to northern and northwestern Chinese cities and provinces, including the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the report said.
