Norway's PSA Gives Okay for Production Drilling at Varg

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Talisman Energy Norge AS consent to carry out exploration drilling, as well as use of the jackup, Maersk Giant, for production drilling on Varg.

The consent relates to the drilling of two exploration wells, three production wells and maintenance of existing Varg wells.

The Maersk Giant jackup is owned and operated by A.P. Moeller-Maersk. The rig was built at the Hitachi yard in Japan, and commissioned in 1986. TheMaersk Giant can operate in waters up to 107 meters deep and can accommodate 87 people. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in February 2002.

Start-up of the activities is planned for mid-June, with each of the activities lasting about 60 days.
