Pearl Energy Completes Ban Yen-2 Exploration Wells

PEARL Energy has completed the Ban Yen-2A, 2B, 2C and 2D exploration wells in Block B 5/27 in the Gulf of Thailand.

Ban Yen-2A was drilled to test an exploration prospect situated around 5.6 km to the southeast of the Jasmine DEL-11A exploration well completed in May 2005. Ban Yen-2A was drilled to a total measured depth of 7,520 feet and preliminary well logs indicated that it intersected approximately 165 vertical feet of net oil-bearing sandstones in seven reservoir intervals and 101 vertical feet of net gas-bearing sandstones in four reservoir intervals. The well was plugged and abandoned as an oil and gas discovery on May 9, 2006.

Ban Yen-2B was drilled directionally from the same surface location as Ban Yen-2A to a total measured depth of 8,065 feet with a bottomhole location 1,316 meters away from the Ban Yen-2A bottomhole location. Preliminary well logs indicated that the well intersected approximately 93 vertical feet of net oil-bearing sandstones in six reservoir intervals. The well was plugged and abandoned as an oil discovery on May 15, 2006.

Ban Yen-2C was drilled directionally from the same surface location as Ban Yen-2A to a total measured depth of 6,294 feet with a bottomhole location 566 meters away from the Ban Yen-2A bottomhole location. Preliminary well logs indicated that the well intersected approximately 72 vertical feet of net oil-bearing sandstones in three reservoir intervals and 12 vertical feet of net gas-bearing sandstones in one reservoir interval. The well was plugged and abandoned as an oil discovery on May 13, 2006.

Ban Yen-2D was drilled directionally from the same surface location as Ban Yen-2A to a total measured depth of 6,760 feet with a bottomhole location 1,149 meters away from the Ban Yen-2A bottomhole location. Preliminary well logs indicated that the well intersected approximately 53 vertical feet of net oil-bearing sandstones in six reservoir intervals. The well was plugged and abandoned as an oil discovery on May 19, 2006.

The ENSCO 107 jackup will now move to the Ban Yen-1A location.

PEARL is currently undertaking a 60-day exploration drilling program within and around the Jasmine Production Area to assess additional oil prospects in the vicinity of the Jasmine field that may be commercially viable using existing infrastructure.

The Jasmine oil field commenced production from Platform A in June 2005 and in August last year PEARL approved the construction and installation of two additional platforms at the B and C locations following a successful five-well exploration campaign. Platform B will be located 3.7 km northwest of the Jasmine Venture MV7 floating production, storage and offloading ("FPSO") vessel and Platform C will be situated 4 km south of the FPSO.

Block B 5/27 is located offshore in the Gulf of Thailand and covers an area of 1,931 sq. km. Platform B and Platform C will be connected via sub-sea pipeline to the Jasmine Venture MV7 FPSO located close to Platform A. Both platforms are expected to be in production by the second quarter of 2007.
