HHI Opens East Sea Gas Field

The Offshore & Engineering Division of Hyundai Heavy Industries held a ground-breaking ceremony at the Ulju-gun Oil Reserve Base to open an East Sea Gas Field, a project commissioned by KNOC.

South Korea's President Kim Dae-jung as well as Chung Mong-joon, HHI advisor, Kim Hyung-byuk, HHI chairman, and another 1,200 guests attended the ceremony and celebrated the beginning of Korea's first gas field development facility.

The East Sea Natural Gas Field No. 1, located 60 km southeast of Ulsan's coast, is a project including a 4,500-ton natural gas production platform, 7,000-ton jacket, and both onshore and deep-sea pipes reaching a total length of 68 km.

The Offshore & Engineering Division plans to complete the project by November 2003.
