New Member for Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel Association

Vroon Offshore Services BV has joined the Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel Association (ERRVA), bringing the number of vessels that come under the auspices of the body to 122.

The Dutch operating company has become the latest member of the representative organisation for safety standby vessels operating in the North Sea.

Two of Vroon's safety standby vessels, the VOS Northwind and VOS Westwind, are presently working for Shell in the UK sector of the North Sea.

The Den Helder-based company owns and operates a total of 25 vessels across the offshore support industry, and is also involved in a series of other shipping markets.

ERRVA Chairman John Wilson said:
"While much of the fleet is still UK-based, ERRVA is assuming a much broader profile and we now have members operating from Ireland, Denmark, Holland, the Caspian Sea and Dubai.

"We are delighted to welcome Vroon on board at a time when the ERRV market is buoyant and confidence is high as illustrated by an ongoing new-build program by some of our 11 members which will ultimately see 21 new vessels enter the fleet.

"Standby vessels play an essential role in the safety of personnel working offshore. They are the first to respond to any emergency and provide an unrivalled service where there is a need to recover personnel from the water quickly, especially where the mass evacuation of an installation is necessary or in the advent of a helicopter ditching near an installation. A standby vessel while on close standby is capable of recovering personnel from the water within four minutes, a performance standard that is practiced on a regular basis.

"Vroon shares the same principles of fellow ERRVA members in terms of commitment to safety and the deployment of the safest and fastest rescue techniques in support of the offshore industry."

Mrs. Marja Doedens, General Manager of Vroon Offshore Services, said: "We are happy to follow our customers and to extend our operations into the UK sector. It is then a natural step to join ERRVA."
