New Zealand Oil & Gas has commenced a seismic refraction survey program near Waikawau in the northern onshore Taranaki Basin. This survey is to delineate the more than 70 million barrels potential of the Felix and Opito-Updip structures, which lie within NZOG's petroleum exploration permit PEP38729. The refraction survey varies from conventional seismic reflection methods in that it is designed to provide seismic velocity information rather than structural imaging. The survey will provide essential data to construct realistic depth structure maps of the prospects and aid in identifying suitable drilling targets.
