PetroChina Begins Pipeline Operations in Shandong

PetroChina has begun commercial operation of phase one of the natural gas pipeline connecting Cangzhou in northern Hebei province with Zibo city in eastern Shandong province. The newly developed pipeline spans 213.5 km and has a diameter of 508 mm. The pipeline is capable of moving 340 million cubic meters of gas a year. It runs through Dezhou and Binzhou in Shandong before reaching Zibo. Gas arrived at the Zibo terminal in early March.

Construction of the pipeline began last November, and the first phase was put into operation ahead of schedule.

PetroChina is planning to develop the second phase of the pipeline, which will increase gas transportation capacity to 1.05 billion cubic meters a year. The company's first gas pipeline project in Shandong, the Cangzhou-Zibo line is designed to supply natural gas to industrial, commercial and household users in Cangzhou and Zibo, among other regions along the route. PetroChina's proved gas reserves are estimated to be over 750 billion cubic meters in western China's Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia region.
