Shell Announces Discovery Offshore Norway

Shell has hit hydrocarbons in Jurassic sandstones in exploration well 6406/5-1 offshore Norway. Shell is continuing to evaluate the discovery in order to obtain more information about reservoir quality and the size of the discovery. Core samples and logging of the well will continue over the next two to three weeks. The well was drilled by Transocean Sedco Forex's semisubmersible Transocean Winner in approximately 945 feet of water. Shell is the operator of License PL 255 with a 30% interest, Petoro holds a 30% interest, Statoil holds a 20% interest and TotalFinaElf holds the remaining 20%.
