BJ Pipeline Inspection Services Wins Contract from TransCanada Pipeline
BJ Pipeline Inspection Services has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide in-line inspection services for TransCanada PipeLines Limited. This is the second consecutive multi-year contract that has been awarded to BJ Pipeline Inspection Services by TransCanada. The three-year contract is scheduled for completion in summer of 2008. Since 1997 BJ has inspected over 11,000 kilometers of pipeline for TransCanada, ranging from NPS 12 to NPS 42 in Canada and the United States.
BJ Pipeline Inspection Services will be inspecting approximately 4,500 kilometers of pipeline during the next three years. Under the terms of the new contract, the first inspection will consist of an MFL metal loss of a 30-inch line in Northern Alberta. To provide the in-line inspection services, the pipeline inspection specialist will be using a fleet of state-of-the-art inspection equipment, including the GEOPIG™ mechanical calliper and VECTRA™ MFL tool. The gas by-pass feature on the VECTRA makes it possible to perform inspections without disrupting gas flow, which is highly beneficial to TransCanada and its customers in Canada and the United States who rely upon a consistent supply of natural gas year-round. BJ's advanced technology allows for accurate sizing and location for metal loss and/or mechanical damage along the inner walls of the pipeline. This gives TransCanada the ability to implement their risk-based management model of pipeline integrity with confidence.
"We look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with TransCanada, and providing them with the benefits of our existing and future technologies to best execute their pipeline integrity program," said Dale Kakoschke, general manager of BJ Pipeline Inspection Services. "We take pride in providing TransCanada a comprehensive service package, and consider our working relationship a true team approach," he added.
According to the pipeline inspection specialist, it is committed to excellence in customer service, operations, safety, technical expertise and quality, and will adhere to that tradition in the years to come as its relationship with TransCanada continues to evolve.
BJ Pipeline Inspection Services designs, manufactures and mobilizes its inspection equipment and personnel from its office in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
