Burren Energy Says First Nebit Dag Well Non-Commercial
Well NDE001, the first of three consecutive exploration wells on the Nebit Dag East prospect in Turkmenistan which was spudded in mid October, has encountered hydrocarbon shows but has been subsequently plugged and abandoned as the zone is considered to be non-commercial at this time.
The well, which is located on the west side of the prospect, was drilled to a total depth of 3470 meters in the base of the Red Series. Gas shows were recorded while drilling and a gas condensate sample was recovered from 2714 meters, however, the zone is considered to be non-commercial at this time. The rig is being moved to the NDE002 location towards the centre of the prospect to continue the exploration program on this structurally complex prospect.
The existing drilling rig will shortly be joined by a further deep drilling rig which is expected to be ready to commence operations in early January. The first well for this new rig will be on the south flank of the Burun field.
Finian O'Sullivan, Chief Executive commented:
'While this well is not considered to be commercial at this time, the confirmation of gas gives us sufficient encouragement to proceed with the drilling of the two remaining wells on this prospect.'
'This was the first of a twenty well exploration program across our asset base over the next twelve months.'
