Jintan Field Onstream by 2003

Nippon Mitsubishi Oil Corp said that gas production at the Jintan field off the east Malaysian state of Sarawak will start in the third quarter of 2003. Construction for production facilities has begun, marking the start of the commercial production phase of the project. The field is expected to have a peak production of 19 million cubic meters per day. Gas produced from the Jintan field will be transported to Bintulu, Sarawak through a submarine pipeline and will be liquefied by Malaysia LNG Tiga, a joint venture between Nippon Mitsubishi, Petronas, the Sarawak state government and the Royal Dutch/Shell Group.

Royal Dutch/Shell Group, which has a 37.5 percent stake, is the operator of the field, in block SK-8. Petronas, has a 25 percent interest in the field while a Nippon Mitsubishi affiliate has a 37.5 percent interest.
