Amerada Hess To Reduce UK Workforce
Amerada Hess will reduce its exploration and production staff based in the UK by approximately 15 precent. This would be that about 110 people would lose their jobs.
Amerada Hess employs about 730 people in London and Aberdeen to oversee exploration and production activities in Europe, Algeria and Asia. The layoff is part of a global restructuring of the exploration and production sector and only onshore staff would be made redundant. Amerada Hess is a relatively small producer in the North Sea, having equity stakes in fields in the UK, Norway, and Denmark. According to reports the company’s crude oil production from Britain totaled 126,000 barrels per day, Norway 26,000 bpd and Denmark 23,000 bpd in the fourth quarter of 2001. Gas production hit 291 million cubic feet from UK, 45 mcf from Denmark and 27 mcf from Norway.
