ONGC Gas Well Suffers Blowout

A fire broke out in an ONGC exploration well in Pasarlapudi near Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh. There was a sudden blowout in the gas well during drilling operations. The blowout was so severe that the rig and four vehicles parked nearby melted in the heat. The occurred on September 8. At the time of this report seven ONGC personnel were reported missing even as the district authorities evacuated the people from three adjoining villages to safer places.

The ONGC's crisis management team based at Narsapur was called in to respond to the accident.
