Murphy Oil had positive results from its appraisal well on the West Patricia oil prospect offshore Sarawak in east Malaysia. The well, spudded on January 7 and completed on January 22, was the fifth to be drilled on West Patricia, which lies in Block SK309 and is 85 percent held by Murphy.
Murphy began drilling on West Patricia in October 2000 and already has confirmed commercial amounts of hydrocarbons, mainly oil.
The company plans to drill a four-well program in Block K offshore Sabah in east Malaysia beginning March 1, with the first well due to take about 45 days.
The wells will be spudded in deepwater at depths in excess of 5,000 feet.
