The REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring UnitS) results from years of leading edge research and development through Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Mission planning for the REMUS is performed with STARFIX.NAV“, Fugro's graphical survey and navigation system, combining true GIS functionality, real-time positioning, and graphic display in a comprehensive survey and monitoring package.
Fugro's REMUS AUV is suitable for performing hydrographic surveys, harbor security operations, search and salvage operations, hazard surveys, pipeline surveys, and environmental monitoring. The typical survey area for the vehicle is 800 by 1000 meters. A variety of data is collected including Single Beam Bathymetry, 600 kHz Sidescan Sonar, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiling (ADCP), water conductivity (Salinity) and temperature. All data may be viewed on board the support vessel immediately after REMUS recovery.
Though portable and easily deployed by two people, the REMUS AUV is sophisticated enough to accurately perform surveys over large areas. The compact size of the AUV eliminates the need for larger vessels and costly, special handling equipment.
