Petrobras set a monthly production record in December, averaging 1.5 million barrels a day, a 6 percent increase over November. The majority of the oil was produced in Brazilian fields, but approximately 39,000 barrels a day came from fields Petrobras operates in Colombia, Angola, Argentina, the United States and Bolivia. The highest ever single-day production record was set on December 27, when its wells drew up 1,568,000 barrels.
Three new platforms have been in operation since December 16 which boosted oil production by 78,000 barrels a day. Almost 40,000 barrels come from one 4,000 feet-deep well in the Marlim Sul field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, making it one of the world's most productive offshore oil wells.
