100 Million Barrels of Oil Sands Production Achieved

Western Oil Sands reports that the Athabasca Oil Sands Project achieved its first 100 million barrels of bitumen production after just over two years of operations.

The Athabasca Oil Sands Project has been in operation since April 2003 and reached cumulative production of 100 million barrels on June 4, 2005.

"This achievement demonstrates the strength and capability of the owners working closely together within the Joint Venture," said Jim Houck, President and CEO of Western Oil Sands. "With this milestone, we have proven that great things can be accomplished by leveraging the strengths within the partnership, and we look forward to the continued growth of our oil sands business and creating further shareholder value."

Western is a Canadian oil sands corporation which holds a 20 percent undivided interest in the Athabasca Oil Sands Project together with Shell Canada Limited (60 per cent) and Chevron Canada Limited (20 per cent).
