Willbros Group Inc. announced that one of its operating units, Willbros Transandina S.A., in an alliance with another international contractor, has been selected by Transierra S.A., composed of Petrobras, TotalFinaElf and Andina, to perform the construction of 230 kilometers of 32-inch natural gas pipeline in Bolivia. The proposed route of the pipeline runs from the San Alberto and San Antonio gas fields in southern Bolivia to the city of Rio Grande, where the Bolivia-Brazil pipeline begins. Work is expected to begin in early 2002 and be complete by January 2003.
Mike Curran, president and COO, commented, "We are pleased that the Transierra consortium has selected us for this important project. This award, in one of our markets of focus, confirms that our strategy -- to leverage our experience and relationships in areas of the world where we have been successful in the past -- is working. Willbros has a long and successful history in Bolivia and we look forward to increasing our presence there."
