Apache Turns On The Tap at Simpson Field

Apache Corporation reported that its Simpson oil field in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia is now on production, flowing at the rate of 21,000 barrels per day from three wells. A further production increase is expected in early 2002 when additional infrastructure is in place.

The field is owned by the Harriet Joint Venture, in which Apache, the operator, holds a 68.5 percent interest. Other owners in the field are Kufpec Australia Pty Ltd. with 19.3 percent and Tap Oil with 12.2 percent.

"As a result of exploration and development success, including initial production from our Gipsy and Legendre fields, by year-end 2001 we will have tripled Apache's daily oil production in Australia from the year-earlier level," said Jim Bass, vice president and managing director of Apache's Australia region.

Including Simpson field, Apache's net production in Australia now stands at 40,000 barrels of oil and 112 million cubic feet of gas per day.
