Rowan Receives MMS Safety Award

Rowan Companies has received the U.S. Department of the Interior, Minerals Management Service (MMS), 2004 National Offshore Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE).

After a comprehensive review of compliance and incident data, and input from district and regional offices, the MMS determined that Rowan was the top performer in the "Drilling Contractor" category.

The SAFE award was established in 1983 to recognize outstanding safety achievement by offshore oil and gas operators and contractors. This award commends companies that expend extra effort to conduct operations in a safe and pollution-free manner by adhering to all regulations, employee trained and motivated personnel, and going the extra mile to enhance safety and environmental protection.

David Russell, Vice President of Rowan's drilling operations, received the award for the Company and later commented, "Rowan is extremely honored to be the recipient of the 2004 National Safety Award for Excellence. We are pleased that the Company's continued commitment to safety and the environment has been formally recognized by the Department of Interior's Mineral Management Service. Rowan credits its strong field management team and personnel and loyal customers for their contribution towards securing this award."
