Production Resumes at Oseberg C

Production resumed Monday morning following a gas alarm on the Oseberg C platform just after midnight.

The gas alarm sounded at 12:35 a.m., and personnel not part of emergency preparedness operations assembled at the lifeboats for a head count. Emergency crews managed to stop the gas leak soon after, and the situation was under control and normal by 1:15 a.m. Personnel returned from the lifeboats; around 68 people were on board.

Production was shut down so crews could identify what happened. The fault - a gasket around a manual valve in the well area - was discovered quickly and fixed. Resumption of full production was expected by around 1 p.m. Monday.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center and other relevant authorities were informed.

Oseberg C is an integrated drilling, processing and housing platform with a steel undercarriage located about 14 kilometers north of the Oseberg Field Center. Oil is transported to the Oseberg Field Center for further distribution by pipeline to Stura. Gas is transported to market via Oseberg Gas Transport and the Statpipe system. The platform is located in Block 30/6 and 0/9 in the Norwegian Sector of the North Sea approximately 130 kilometers northwest of Bergen.

Participants in Oseberg C are Hydro (operator) 34.00%; Petoro 33.6%; Statoil 15.30%; TotalFinaElf 10.00%; ExxonMobil 4.70%; ConocoPhillips 2.40%.
