EurOmax Spuds Karahan-1 Well in Turkey
EurOmax reports that the Karahan-1 Well in Turkey has spud. The 2000 meter Karahan-1 well is targeting a well-defined reefal limestone at the top of the Upper Serravalian Kuzgun Formation.
Modeling of seismic data indicates up to 100 metres of net pay. The target reef has a similar structural and geological setting to the Bulgurdag oilfield discovered by Mobil 10 kilometers to the north and on production since the 1960s.
EurOmax has a 15% carried interest in this well with operator Merty-Zorlu and The Krystal Group Pte.
Elsewhere, the Yesiltepe-2 well in Turkey reached TD of 1260 meters. The Y-2 well was drilled on the Yesiltepe structure, which at Y-1 flowed 3.2 mmcf/d in 2003. In the Y-2 well numerous gas shows were recorded on the mud log during drilling. The Y-2 well was logged, seven inch casing run to TD, and a testing program commenced with the lower zones below the zone corresponding to the one which flowed gas in Y-1. Due to prior commitments of the drilling rig, the Y-2 testing program had to be suspended so that the drill rig could be released. The Y-2 test program remains suspended until a smaller workover rig becomes available.
