The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted its consent to Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS to carry out exploration drilling with the Deepsea Trym. The consent also covers use of the Deepsea Trym for production drilling. The drilling will be carried out in various production licenses on the Troll field.

Norsk Hydro's application comprises the following three exploration wells

  • 31/4-12, production license 055

  • 35/11-13, production license 090

  • 25/10-9, production license 028C

  • as well as three production wells on the unitized Troll field (Troll Unit), production licenses 054 and 085.

Start-up of the first well, 31/4-12, depends on the facility's activities prior to this assignment, but the plan is for spudding to take place at the end of January/ beginning of February.

The order in which the other wells will be drilled has not yet been determined.

At this time, the PSA has not granted consent for the drilling of well 25/10-9, in part because the drilling program has not been drawn up.

The Deepsea Trym is a semi-submersible drilling facility of a modified H-3 design, built by Aker Verdal and delivered in 1976.

The facility was purchased by Odfjell Drilling AS in February 1996. Since then, it has operated on the Norwegian shelf and has undergone several upgrades and modifications in order to satisfy applicable shelf regulations.

The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in June 2003. The Deepsea Trym sails under the Norwegian flag, and Det Norske Veritas is the classification society.

Supplies for the facility will be delivered from Mongstad. Personnel transport will be carried out by CHC Helikopter Service AS out of Flesland.
