Wood Group ESP Awarded Patent for New Rotor Bearing Assembly

Wood Group ESP, a subsidiary of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC, has received a U.S. patent for an improved rotor bearing that increases the flow of lubricant in electrical submersible pump motors, and the design is expected to extend motor operating life.

As motors continue to increase in speed and power, the need for effective lubrication also increases. Without sufficient lubrication, the moving components of the submersible motor can wear, resulting in mechanical or electrical failure, which can lead to expensive repairs and work stoppages. Wood Group ESP's newly patented design increases the flow of lubricant and improves pumping action through the motor.

"Wood Group ESP is committed to providing oil and gas producers worldwide with greater value through high-quality, long-running pumping systems," stated Joe Brady, president of Wood Group ESP.
