DONG has completed drilling of the appraisal well Sofie-2/2A (5605/13-5) on the Sofie oil discovery in the North Sea. The well was drilled with the jackup ENSCO 70.

The Sofie oil discovery was made with the Sofie-1 well in 2003. The deposit is situated in sandstone of Paleogene age.

Drilling of Sofie-2 commenced on December 19th in 58 meters of water.

Sofie-2 was drilled as a vertical well approximately 2 kilometers east of Sofie-1 and reached total depth at 1951 meters below mean sea level in chalk of Danian age. The well proved the presence of oil in the sandstone reservoir.

Subsequently a side-track, Sofie-2A, was carried out in order to appraise the reservoir further towards northwest.

Sofie-2/2A has shown that the oil deposit is more complicated than expected. The results will now be further evaluated.

The Sofie-2/2A well will be plugged and abandoned. The ENSCO 70 rig is subsequently going to drill the Sissel-1 exploration well approximately 6 kilometers west of Sofie-2 in the same license area.

The companies in License 6/95 are DONG as operator with 50%; Paladin Oil with 30% and Denerco Oil with the remaining 20%.
