Statoil Gets OK to Use of Ocean Vanguard on Apollo Prospect

Statoil has received consent to carry out exploration drilling with Ocean Vanguard and to use the same installation for production drilling. The company will drill an exploration well on the Apollo prospect and a combined exploration and production well on Vigdis.

Ocean Vanguard is a drilling rig of the Bingo 3000 type, which was completed in 1982 at Trosvik Verksted AS. It has undergone several upgrades later on. The rig is classified in DnV. It is owned and operated by Diamond Offshore Drilling Ltd. Ocean Vanguard received the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway's Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on July 2, 2004.

Exploration well 34/10-49 S on the Apollo prospect belongs to production license 050.

The combined exploration and production well 34/7-D-4 H on Vigdis will be drilled through an existing subsea template on Vigdis and belongs to production license 089.

Apollo (A) and Vigdis (V) are located in the northern part of the North Sea, southwest and northwest of Gullfaks respectively.

Planned start-up of the activity is January 1, 2005. Estimated duration of the drilling is 90 days.

The activity will comprise transport services with supply boat to and from the base in FlorÝ, as well as personnel transport with helicopter from the helicopter base at Flesland near Bergen.
