SapuraCrest Petroleum's subsidiary, TL Offshore Sdn Bhd, has been awarded a RM144 million procurement and installation services contract by Brunei Shell Petroleum, making it the largest overseas contract secured by the company so far.
TL Offshore Sdn Bhd specializes in the transportation and installation of sub sea pipelines and offshore structures.
The contract is specifically for Phase 3 of the Champion West project which first started in 1970 and has remained one of Brunei's main oil and gas production fields.
"We are delighted to be awarded this contract as it undoubtedly reflects a vote of confidence in the expertise and capability of the SapuraCrest Group," said its executive vice-chairman, Datuk Shahril Shamsuddin in a statement Tuesday.
"This is a testament to our strategic efforts and the focus placed over the last 18 months towards developing our skills and enhancing our technological capabilities," he said.
The project will commence on Dec 8, 2004 and is expected to be completed within a period of one year.
SapuraCrest, an integrated oil and gas services provider has enjoyed a string of successes following its efforts to further enhance its competitive ability both here and around the world.
These include a recent contract with Sarawak Shell Berhad and the Sabah Shell Petroleum Company for the provision of underwater inspection and maintenance services through another wholly owned subsidiary, Sarku Engineering Services Sdn Bhd.
The Sarku Group specializes in offshore construction, hook-up, inspection, repairs and maintenance activities.
