Norway's PSA Gives to Shell for Drilling on Haltenbanken

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted consent to A/S Norske Shell for exploration drilling in production license 255 on Haltenbanken using the semisub Transocean Leader. The consent applies to drilling of exploration well 6406/9-1 and is an extension of a consent granted in March 2004.

Unforeseen circumstances have led to postponement, and the activity will last until April 10, 2005, depending on exploration results and progress.

Well 6406/9-1 is a vertical exploration well located on Haltenbanken, about 25 km northwest of Njord. The Transocean Leader is a semisubmersible rig delivered in 1987 from Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea. The rig is operated by Transocean Inc.
