Tests at a well in the Yikeyawuru structure yielded a daily gas output of 34,900 cubic meters. The structure, covering an area of 500 square km, is in the Sebei gas field, the biggest gas field in Qaidam. Estimates have not yet been made to predict gas reserves in the structure, but possible gas reserves in the Qaidam basin could exceed 500 billion cubic meters. Daily gas output in Sebei was around 1.8 million cubic meters
Last month, PetroChina finished building a 950 km natural gas pipeline from Sebei to Lanzhou, capital of the neighboring province of Gansu. The 2.5 billion yuan ($300 million) pipeline was designed to carry two billion cubic meters of gas a year.
