Hamilton was elected to his present position with EEX in January 1997. Previously, he was with Pennzoil Company, where he served as Executive Vice President, responsible for all Pennzoil operating companies, and President of Pennzoil Exploration and Production Company.
Prior to joining Pennzoil, Hamilton was a director of BP Exploration, where he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Frontier and International Operating Company and General Manager for East Asia, Australia and Latin America. Previously, he was Executive Vice President-Exploration for Standard Oil Company, prior to its merger into BP, and Executive Vice President- Exploration and Land for Aminoil Company. He also served in several domestic, international and research management positions for Exxon Corporation.
Hamilton earned a B.S. degree in geology from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and received the university's distinguished alumnus award in 1998. He earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geology from the University of North Dakota, which also awarded him an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree.
Hamilton is active in numerous professional, educational and civic organizations. His professional activities include being a member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Oil & Gas Association and the Board of Directors for the 12th World Petroleum Congress, as well as serving as past chairman of the Board of Trustees for the American Geological Institute Foundation and Chairman Emeritus for the Advisory Board of the Earth Sciences and Resources Institute at the University of South Carolina and the University of Utah.
