Statoil Awards Mikkel Contract

Statoil has awarded European Marine Contractors the assignment of laying a pipeline between the Mikkel field in the Norwegian Sea and a subsea template on the Asgard field's Midgard deposit.

The pipeline will have a diameter of 18 inches and a length of 40 kilometers. The contract is worth around NOK 80 million. Plans call for the operation to be carried out in August 2002. Statoil will award contracts worth a total of NOK 300-400 million for the gas and condensate field this autumn. These include surface treatment of the Midgard pipeline, laying of a 70-kilometer hydraulic cable from the Asgard B platform to the Mikkel field, installation of equipment as well as pressure testing of pipelines and cables.

FMC Kongsberg, Reinertsen Engineering and Kvaerner Oil & Gas were awarded the other main contracts for the field development during the summer.

Mikkel is expected to come on stream October 2003. The well flow will be transferred via Midgard to Asgard B for further treatment. The gas will be transported through the Asgard Transport line to the gas treatment complex at Karsto north of Stavanger, while the condensate will be sent through existing pipelines to the Asgard C storage vessel for export.
