Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the first global and pan-European indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies. They provide asset managers with reliable and objective benchmarks to manage sustainability portfolios.
"Such a high ranking underlines the importance we place on our sustainability program," said AMEC Chief Executive Sir Peter Mason. "We are delighted with this ranking - particularly as it is the first time we have contributed to the Dow Jones indexes.
"We place considerable effort and commitment into our sustainability program. This type of external benchmark vindicates our determination to be a sustainable business and it is encouraging that this ranking places us along side many of the world's leading companies."
Benchmarking sustainability performance is an important part of AMEC's approach to business. The company took part in three major benchmarking surveys last year, one by the Ethical Investment Research Service and two by Business in the Community. Each of these will also be repeated for 2004.
