London-based RDS has a core staff of experienced engineers and designers, and is a world leader in design, construction and commissioning of drilling facilities. Since its formation in 1975, RDS has been responsible for numerous offshore platform rigs operating in a range of global locations, drillships and mobile offshore rigs for worldwide operations, and some specialised land rigs.
Maurice White, Chief Executive of KCA DEUTAG, comments, "This acquisition will further strengthen KCA DEUTAG's existing engineering capability, as well as broadening the client base and potential scope of work, specifically into non-operated rig and other engineering design. Through RDS's existing partners, we will also access important Chinese market opportunities and capabilities."
"RDS will become a Division of KCA DEUTAG but, as the industry's premier rig designer, will continue to operate independently with the same management and engineering personnel who have built the company's reputation to date and provided an unrivalled service to its customers. Whilst retaining its independence, it is anticipated that the being part of the KCA DEUTAG organization will enable RDS to provide an enhanced service to its customers."
