Temsah Platform Offshore Egypt Hit by Fire

Eni reports that during drilling operations on the gas production platform Temsah, operated by Petrobel on behalf of Eni/leoc, EGPC (Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation) and BP, a fluid release occurred and subsequently the installation caught on fire. The Temsah Platform is located in the Mediterranean Sea, about 60 kilometers from Port Said in Egypt.

All the staff aboard the platform had been safely evacuated and without any casualty before the fire broke out.

According to Eni, measures aimed to control the blow out have been promptly activated.

Reports coming into Rigzone have stated that GlobalSantaFe's Adriatic IV jackup also suffered damage during the fire and collapsed about one hour after noon, local time.

The rig was under contract to Petrobel
