ExxonMobil Starts Fuels Production at Baytown, Beaumont
Exxon Mobil Corp. has begun producing fuels at reduced rates at its Baytown and Beaumont refineries as the coastal Texas region continues to recover from Hurricane Harvey, the company stated Thursday afternoon.
“We are making good progress safely restoring our operations to pre-storm levels,” Jerry Wascom, president of ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Co., said in a written statement. “We have brought in gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from other regions to supplement our own production to ensure a quick return of reliable supply to our customers.
ExxonMobil also reported that crude oil and refined product pipelines operated by ExxonMobil Pipeline Co. to and from Baytown refinery are in service. In addition, it stated that pipelines from Baytown to San Antonio and Irving, Texas, have returned to full service and terminals in those locations have reopened. Moreover, it noted that pipeline services to all ExxonMobil throughput and exchange terminals have been restored and that fuel supplies available to consumers are largely back to normal levels.
“Following the storm, we worked closely with our partners and customers who sell our branded products to maximize the fuel supplies that were available to consumers and emergency responders,” according to Bryan Milton, president of ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Co. “It’s important to recognize the role of our industry in enabling recovery from the unprecedented impacts of Harvey.”
In its statement Thursday, ExxonMobil also said that it is working to restore chemical and lubricants manufacturing operations affected by Harvey. The company provided the following status updates:
- Baytown chemical plant: has resumed normal operations
- Mont Belvieu plastics plant: has resumed normal operations
- Beaumont polyethylene plant: has resumed normal operations
- Baytown olefins plant: operating at reduced rates
- Beaumont chemical plant and lubricants blending and packaging plant: have resumed operations and are ramping up toward pre-storm production capacity
“Because of our extensive planning and preparation efforts, we were able to protect the infrastructure of our manufacturing plants and are well positioned to resume operations at sites impacted by the storm in a timely fashion,” stated Neil Chapman, president of ExxonMobil Chemical Co.
