Enbridge Cutting 1,000 Jobs in US and Canada
Following the closing of its acquisition of Spectra Energy, Enbridge is trimming its workforce by 6%.

Enbridge Inc., the largest pipeline company in Canada is cutting about 1,000 jobs following its acquisition of Spectra Energy Corp., which was completed Feb. 27.

“After a careful evaluation, Enbridge has taken the difficult but necessary step to address the overlap in the combined company’s organizational structure,” Michael Barnes, Enbridge spokesperson, said in an emailed statement to Rigzone. “Unfortunately, this means a reduction of approximately 1,000 positions enterprise wide, or about six percent of our workforce in the U.S. and Canada.”

Barnes continued by saying the workforce reductions are “only one component of the synergies [Enbridge] expects to achieve over the coming months as [it] fully integrate [the] companies.”

“Throughout this process, Enbridge is committed to treating people fairly and with respect,” he said. “We are providing support to those leaving the company, as well as those who remain.”

The $28 billion deal between Enbridge and Spectra created the largest energy infrastructure company in North America.
