Adverse Weather Could Stop Offshore Workers Coming Home for Christmas
BP plc has warned that around 100 offshore workers may not get home for Christmas due to adverse weather west of Shetland.

BP plc has told Rigzone that around 100 offshore workers may not get home in time for Christmas due to extreme weather west of Shetland, UK.

"We expect around 100 will not be able to get home for Christmas due to adverse weather, which prohibits us from flying," a BP representative told Rigzone.

Gusts of 70mph and 80mph are expected across more exposed parts of the Scottish mainland and Shetland, respectively, according a Met Office warning issued Friday. The weather forecaster also predicted that strong winds would continue to bring disruption to travel through December 24.

“We warn the public and emergency responders of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause danger to life,” a Met Office statement said on the organization’s website Friday.
