Exova Secures Testing Contract with Subsea 7

Global testing company Exova has agreed a new two-year framework agreement with Subsea 7 to provide testing services in support of its pipeline welding activities.

The agreement will include support to weld qualification, routine mechanical testing of materials, corrosion testing and fatigue testing. The majority of work will be conducted in the UK at Exova’s Corrosion Centre in Dudley, its fracture mechanics laboratory in Daventry, and its laboratory in Newbridge, Edinburgh.

In order to ensure it meets ongoing innovations and technical demand, Exova has invested in additional autoclaves for corrosion testing in Dudley and fatigue rigs for steel catenary riser fatigue testing in Daventry.

“We have had a good long-term relationship with Subsea 7, working closely with their teams, including R&D, to provide new and innovative solutions in an evolving market,” said Murray Gilder, director of oil and gas and industrials at Exova.

“Previously we developed a mobile testing laboratory and workshop that Subsea 7 used at a spool base in Angola to allow faster turnaround of coatings testing. We also co-developed a full-ring corrosion test to provide more indicative results than those obtained by testing smaller samples. This new agreement builds on the relationship and level of service we have continually provided for Subsea 7,” he added.
