WFS Technologies of Livingston, Scotland announced Wednesday that it has appointed Kuala Lumpur-based Independent Marine & Engineering Consultants Sdn Bhd (IMEC) as exclusive agents for Malaysia as the 2 companies work to expand the use of subsea automation in the sector.
The arrangement allows WFS to tap on the business network and local supply chain of IMEC, which has an extensive network of technical expertise in Southeast Asia through operating a range of engineering and design disciplines including subsea support and installation.
WFS provides automation solutions to subsea oil and gas industry using its Seatooth-enabled technology. It said the firm's wireless automation solutions can have lower installation costs than cabled systems, which could improve project economics.
"The agreement with IMEC is an important step to providing local support for WFS's customers in Malaysia ... IMEC is well regarded and has a strong regional presence. We see a common desire to offer our customers safe, reliable and cost effective solutions ... the relationship with IMEC strengthens our presence in Southeast Asia,” Brendan Hyland, chairman of WFS Technologies said in the press release.
