The offices are located in Rio Das Ostras, minutes away from the central offshore operations base of Macae and Rio De Janeiro, and place C-MAR Group at the hub of Brazil's oil industry.
C-MAR Group Chairman Chris Hawdon said that the company has been providing marine and subsea services to clients in Brazil over the past two years and the decision to open a local office there resulted from client demand.
"This demand, allied to the dismantling of the Petrobras production monopoly offers C-MAR tremendous opportunities for future growth in one of the world's largest offshore deepwater plays," said Mr Hawdon.
Charles Blachford, a mariner with more than 25 years of sea-going experience has been appointed Operations Manager of the new facility. For the past 15 years, Mr Blachford has been working offshore in the Campos Basin.
C-MAR Group, which has been headquartered in Aberdeen since 1990, consists of six main product streams: Vessel Management; HR and Marine Crewing; Project and Marine Engineering; Subsea; Teleinformatics; and Payroll and Accounting. "The successful expansion blueprint utilized in establishing C-MAR Canada and C-MAR America will be replicated in Brazil utilizing local knowledge augmented by the group-wide capability," said Mr Hawdon.
"The initial thrust in the Brazilian market place will focus on Subsea and Marine activities where the group, since its inception 12 years ago, has become recognised as a deepwater industry leader."
Opportunities also exist in South America to expand C-MAR's involvement in the Eco tour business. This is a new market which C-MAR entered this year through its operation of a passenger liner which offers ecological cruises to the Arctic and Antarctic. This involvement is believed to be a first for an Aberdeen based company.
The C-MAR Group is a privately owned organization with offices in, Aberdeen, London, Halifax, Nova Scotia, St Johns, Newfoundland and Houston, Texas. The group turnover in 2000 was £14 Million and is on target in 2001 to achieve sales of £17million. With the addition of the Brazil operation sales in 2002 are targeted to achieve in excess of £20million.
