NOV Lays Off 54 Houston Workers as Part of Consolidation
U.S. oilfield equipment supplier National Oilwell Varco (NOV) is consolidating its facility located at Sam Houston Parkway (SHP) in Houston, Texas, resulting in the layoffs of 54 workers.
According to data provided to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), NOV will relocate its SHP facility to another Houston facility located at FM 529. The entire SHP facility will be consolidated with the 529 facility. NOV stated that some employees will be transferred to the new facility.
Affected employees’ termination date is Nov. 1.
NOV has laid off workers in several Texas locations this year, as the company continues to deal with the global oil glut.
In January, the company closed a support facility in San Angelo, resulting in the layoffs of 120 workers. At the time, a spokesperson told Rigzone the company was consolidating the facility into other manufacturing facilities and was consistent with NOV’s long-term plans to optimize its global footprint. In July, NOV laid off 54 workers at its facility in Galena Park.
NOV could not be reached for comment as of press time.
