Quadrant Rectifies Mechanical Issue that Delayed Roc-2 Drilling in NWS

Quadrant Energy rectified a mechanical issue with the rig's drilling system that caused a delay of around 10 days in the drilling of the Roc-2 well in WA-437-P exploration permit in the North West Shelf of Australia, partner Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd. reported Wednesday.

The operator has drilled the Roc-2 well to around 7,316 feet (2,230 meters) measured depth. Looking ahead, Quadrant is expected to take around 1 week to drill the 17.5 inch hole down to a depth of approximately 11,483 feet (3,500 meters) measured depth before running the 13.625 inch intermediate casing. The well will then be deepened in 8.5 inch hole to just above the reservoir target.

Carnavon said the primary target for Roc-2 well, the Caley sands, is expected to be cored with coring activities planned for late August or early September. Report on whether the target formations are hydrocarbon-bearing, and the extent of any reservoir sands intersected, will be made after completion of a drilling wiper trip with Logging While Drilling tools at the completion of the coring process. The well will then be deepened to explore for the secondary targets to a total depth of up to 17,224 feet (5,250 meters).

Partners in the WA-437-P permit are Quadrant (80 percent interest) and Carnarvon (20 percent interest).
