Keppel Singmarine Bags $74M Contracts from Jan De Nul to Build 3 Dredgers

Singapore's Keppel Corp. Ltd. reported Wednesday that Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd., a unit of its wholly owned subsidiary Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Keppel O&M), has bagged contracts, worth $73.6 million (SGD 100 million), from Belgium's Jan De Nul Group to build three Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers.

Delivery of the first two dredgers is scheduled for the second half of 2018, while construction of the third dredger is dependent on Jan De Nul exercising its option within six months.

The dregders, to be built to Jan De Nul’s design, will be able to dredge to a maximum depth of 90.6 feet (27.6 meters) and have a hopper capacity of 123,601 cubic feet (3,500 cubic meters). Keppel Singmarine will build the two dredgers to the requirements of classification society, Bureau Veritas, in Keppel Nantong Shipyard, a unit of Keppel O&M.

"We are pleased to receive these new contracts from long-standing customer Jan De Nul ... We are always on the lookout to add value to our customers and markets, and this project is a natural extension of Keppel Singmarine’s strong track record and expertise in specialized vessels. This is also in line with our efforts to deepen our presence in non-oil and gas markets where we can leverage our capabilities," Abu Bakar, managing director of Keppel Singmarine, said in the press release.

"We need such compact dredgers for maintenance work, for coastal restoration and for a variety of land reclamation work around the world. We are confident that Keppel Singmarine with its expertise and experience will provide us with robust, reliable and advanced dredgers in a safe and timely manner," Robby De Backer, director of Newbuilding Department of Jan De Nul Group, added.
