Energy Layoffs Continue in Texas

The layoffs continue in oil and gas as two more companies announce workforce reductions in Texas. Weatherford Artificial Lift Systems and Sun Fab Industrial Contracting are reducing staff by 90 and 125 employees, respectively, according to data sent to the Texas Workforce Commission.

Weatherford Artificial Lift Systems, a subsidiary of Weatherford International, is cutting 90 jobs at its manufacturing operations facility in Katy, Texas due to “a loss of business opportunities.” The WARN letter stated layoffs will occur August 21 and it’s expected that a majority of affected employees will be placed on excused leave with pay on July 31 through the layoff date.

Oil and energy company Sun Fab Industrial Contracting, based in El Paso, Texas is permanently closing all of its business operations in El Paso and Gallup, New Mexico, resulting in 125 layoffs, the WARN notice states.

Emails to Weatherford and Sun Fab were not returned as of press time.
