Sea Trucks to Provide Floatel Services for Malikai Project Off Malaysia

Sea Trucks Group reported Tuesday that it has clinched a contract from Sabah Shell Petroleum Co. Ltd. to provide flotel services for the Malikai deepwater development project in Block G Production Sharing Contract (PSC), located 62 miles offshore Sabah, Malaysia in water depths of around 1,641 feet.

The workscope, which includes an extention option, consists of providing accommodation support services for 200 construction personnel. Offshore activities for the 2 month-long contract are scheduled to commence in mid 2016.

Sea Trucks nominated Jascon 34, a DP3 (dynamic positioning 3) Accommodation Pipelay Construction vessel, for the project. The vessel, equipped with accommodation facilities for up to 335 persons, will be connected to the Malikai Tension Leg Platform (TLP) via its active heave compensated telescopic gangway.

In a related development, InterMoor, an Acteon company, said it has completed the marine aspects of the float-off and tow of the TLP for the Malikai project.

The firm, contracted by the France's Technip and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) joint venture, loaded the TLP onto the Dockwise Heavy Lift Vessel White Marlin at MMHE shipyard in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia before transporting it to a float-off location in the Singapore Straits for various nearshore commissioning tasks to be performed, prior to return to the shipyard.

Intermoor's workscope also covered engineering analysis and procedures, project management for the nearshore operations, management of chartered vessels, provision of offshore personnel and various ancillary services. In addition, the firm subcontracted Acteon sister company UTEC to provide survey and positioning for the TLP and marine spread. The offshore operation was completed safely and without incident in April this year.

"From start to finish, InterMoor Pte's contribution lasted six months. Although a lot of the work is standard for us, particularly the towing and marine activities, many of the work scopes were novel, particularly the provision of catering and sanitation services. Our team was diligent in their care of the project both from Singapore and on location in the MMHE shipyard, Malaysia, and is proud to have been associated with this important development for the region,” Martin Kobiela, managing director, InterMoor Pte in Singapore said in a press release.
